Shea Butter Initiative Regional Workshop

Shea butter sales go from local to international
Canadian NGOs and West African women working together

On March 19th and 20th, 2007, UNITERRA  took part in a regional workshop in Bamako (Mali) to distribute the results of three marketing research on on shea butter production, in collaboration with other Canadian NGOs. A similar workshop is held  on March 26th and 27th  in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

The regional workshop, organized as part of the Initiative Karité programme, will share information on the commercialization of shea butter products and shea by-products, packaging, and branding. The workshop will attract regional participants from Burkina Faso, Mali Niger, Sénégal, Guinée et Ghana and , as well as other network participants – producers, cooperatives, researchers, NGOs, government agencies, etc. Along with presenting the results of the studies, workshops give players a chance to get together and share their experiences. The event includes a presentation on the topic of organic, fair-trade certification, by the Association des femmes de Songtaaba of Burkina Faso.

This is another step on the road toward women’s success in West Africa .
