EDUCATION IN NIGERArea: 1,267,000 km2 (CIDA) Population: 12.4 million (CIDA) Gross National Income (GNI) per capita: $200 US The literacy rate among adults is 20%--i.e. 30% among adult men and 11% among women (CIDA) The secondary school enrolment rate is 8% among men and 5% among women There are about twenty national languages. The most widely spoken are Haussa (49.6%) and Zarma (20.8%), both of which number over a million speakers.

ON THE GROUND
We are active on several levels: programming, pedagogical approaches and content, and resource mobilization. As well, we promote the implementation of gender-sensitive programs which will allow greater participation and success of women in education.
