For Youth Programs in Guatemala

The critical situation in the rural regions and the lack of employment opportunities are creating difficult conditions for youth in Guatemala.

Uniterra's partners support the prevention of juvenile violence and delinquency, particularly via their support for regional prevention mechanisms and youth networks.
GUATEMALA IN FIGURES
The primary school enrolment and attendance rate is 78% (UNICEF)

The secondary school enrolment rate is 41% for men and 38% for women (UNICEF)

46% of the population lives in urban areas (UNICEF)

The legacy of the armed conflict and poverty are among the principal causes of violence, of which the rapid growth in youth street gangs is a manifestation (Uniterra documents)

ON THE GROUND

We develop participation among youth by involving them in decision-making relevant to their environment. Several projects seek to promote and encourage employability and entrepreneurship among youth.
