Educate and Advocate
Education changes the world. As a WUSC Local Committee, there are many ways you can play a key role. You can choose from this menu of WUSC activities, or get creative and come up with your own. Determine how you want to raise awareness about global issues and international development. Make a difference.Join the 8 Goals for A Better World campaign and help make the Millennium Development Goals a reality! Hold a “Stand Up and Speak Out” event, champion the goals on campus, and get your institution to sign the Millennium Declaration.
Fair trade
Making trade fair globally starts with ethical purchasing locally. Fair Trade contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions for producers and workers in developing countries. Purchase fair trade products and make them available on campus.
Bicycles, especially if outfitted with a stretcher, can make a difference for those living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi. Bikes are a common form of transportation and can help people suffering from HIV/AIDS get medical attention. Raise awareness and funds for this initiative in the first week of December around World AIDS Day and/or in February/March.
By bringing together local experts, returned volunteers, students and faculty, an educational symposium can be a catalyst for action. All Local Committees will be encouraged to apply for funding to hold events on their campus! Organize an event on your campus during International Development Week or the Journées québecoises de la solidarité internationale.
