A Reference Centre for Social Economy ?

The following news is taken from the Chantier de l’économie sociale’s International Bulletin-January 2012.

Boosted by the success of the International Forum on Social and Solidarity Economy (FIESS) and in view of making good use of the information presented and collected on the state of social and solidarity economy (SSE) across the world, the Chantier de l’économie sociale is currently working on the creation of a International Reference and Liaison Centre on Social and Solidarity Economy Public Policies: RELIESS.

The RELIESS will disseminate information on public policies, namely on the collaborations approaches between civil society and public sector that enable the development of social and solidarity economy internationally. It iwll also seek to encourage international networking of actors around public policies in favour of social economy, within civil society as within public administrations.

Discussions are currently ongoing between the Uniterra Program and the Chantier de l’économie sociale du Québec in view of a collaboration which could provide visibility to the work of our partners in social economy. Indeed, several Uniterra partners have directly contributed to the design and development of public policies on social and solidarity economy, namely in Mali and Bolivia. The governement of these countries have officially recognized social economy as an effective means to reduce poverty and have implemented policies to encourage the development of this economic sector.
